Although the company seemingly sells a $399 desktop version for the Mac, Intuit’s focus is on various cloud versions of QuickBooks Online, with plans starting at $12.50 per month. ![]() QuickBooks : The 800-pound gorilla of the small business accounting world is still Intuit’s QuickBooks. However, for $15 per month, we weren’t interested in using an emulated Windows app. The company’s engineers figured out a way to embed the Windows version of AccountEdge in a custom emulation wrapper, and they made that the official migration path for orphaned Mac users. AccountEdge Pro : You have to give MYOB credit for trying. Two choices immediately presented themselves: Such transitions are most easily done at the start of a year, so in late 2020, we started evaluating the alternatives. Tonya didn’t mind keeping one of her Macs on 10.14 Mojave so she could keep running AccountEdge temporarily, but we clearly had to switch accounting systems. MYOB tried and failed to update AccountEdge to be a 64-bit app, and eventually stopped selling it. Unfortunately, AccountEdge was built on a 30-year-old, 32-bit code base that wasn’t compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. The main alternative was Intuit’s QuickBooks, but we had seen Intuit jerk Mac users around too many times with canceled Mac apps to trust it. While Tonya could get it to do everything we needed, particularly after taking an online accounting class in 2018, it was neither easy nor enjoyable to use. It was capable but clunky, never really evolving beyond its 1990’s heritage. Over the years, MYOB went through numerous corporate transitions, and the app itself became known as AccountEdge. I don’t remember what we used originally-possibly MacMoney-but when it came time to set up a proper business accounting system, a financial adviser friend helped us configure and learn MYOB. #1649: More LastPass breach details and 1Password switch, macOS screen saver problem, tvOS 16.3.3 fixes Siri Remote bugĪbout 25 years ago, Tonya took over the accounting for TidBITS from me.#1650: Cloud storage changes for Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive quirky printing problem.#1651: Dealing with leading zeroes in spreadsheet data, removing ad tracking from ckbk.#1652: OS updates, DPReview shuttered, LucidLink cloud storage.#1653: Apple Music Classical review, Authory service for writers, WWDC 2023 dates announced. ![]() Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. I do apologise for the startle and I hope my response has been able to help. ![]() In terms of use with 32-bit software with the upcoming 64-bit only Mac Platform, I have confirmed MYOB's point on this on another post found here: 32-bit AccountEdge will soon need 64-bit for Mac High Sierra 10.13.4 We will be including this option in a future release, however for now we have obtained a Deferral with the ATO for AccountEdge Clients. That being said, it is true that we will not have an STP compliance option for AccountEdge Users (Both Pro and Network Edition) and this was detailed in an email sent for your Deferral Code as well as on this Forum on this thread: Single Touch Payroll (STP) We have no plans to cease support for this product for the foreseeable future. Hi do apologise for the alarming report there, I can confirm that we are continuing to release AccountEdge releases and will be releasing v17.5 shortly for the End of Financial Year Compliance release.
